Explanation (?):

The Windows media connect (WMC) helper service provides the ability for universal plug and play (UPnP) devices to be detected for media renderer devices. This service operates through the other UPnP services including the Windows media connect (WMC) service and is installed by Windows Media Player 10. Combined with the abilities of the Windows media connect (WMC) service this service can detect and connect to media sources that stream data. So you could stream video from one computer to another, or from one device to a computer (or in theory from one Windows based device to another Windows based device). This ability is not needed by most people, but the service only starts when attempting to retrieve stream data so it can be left on manual. If you do not wish to use this service then you may want to consider disabling UPnP altogether.
